Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Summer Activities That Aren’t Reading

Dear fellow Babblers,

Happy Tuesday! No wait, whahhhhh? You tellin me the lovely gals behind The Broke and the Bookish have gone on a 7 WEEK HIATUS? Whahh ezzzz deees bologna I reeeed???? Quoi?… Ok Delphine, get over yourself, no need to exaggerate the accent here, you’re American, remember?

panicking
Just like most of my fellow book bloggers, I have grown to enjoy Tuesdays for the Top Ten Tuesday meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Now that they’re on vacation, however, I guess it’s that time to do archive-searching and along with all the rest of y’all, re-create new Top Ten Tuesday discussions, or repeat those which have done before.

Today I’ll be doing Top Ten Favorite Summer Activities That Aren’t Reading since:
1. Stephanie at Stephanie’s Novel Fiction is my idol who makes homemade ice cream has just done it.
2. It’s summer so why not ?
3. Yes, book bloggers do other activities other than reading and it’s time to babble about what…
          1. Hiking

Officially known as “Legs of Steel” (thanks Mama!), I look forward to my early morning hikes. I go six days a week for 3 hours. What I love most about hiking, especially as a chick breathing in L.A. smog air everyday is the sheer peace and tranquility I’m able to discover in nature that allows me to temporarily forget the outside world and find peace with the raw beauty of the world apart from the modern world we traverse now.

          2. Gardening

I haven’t been able to garden ever since I’ve moved out of my parents house into an apartment. Growing up, I always enjoyed being outside in the sun, just me, the birds, and the soil under my fingernails as I bring seeds to life.

    3. Online Shopping – (dear help me Gawd!)

I swear, I have a HUGEEE online shopping obsession. I never buy books online though – it just doesn’t feel the same as picking a book off a shelf of thousands and taking it hope with me. With the summer heat and laziness that seems to have been dawning on me recently, I’ve been spending more and more time home. While I should be using my time more wisely to actually secure my helpless future, what do I do… Shopbop!! For any of you nerds out there who don’t follow fashion, Shopbop is a website where you can order the latest designer clothing, shoes, and accessories. I don’t often order clothes… it’s shoes that I’m a sucker for. I recently spent $740 for a pair of Charlotte Olympia kitty flats and you would think I would have stopped there… Only last week, and you can thank my date being unexpectedly canceled for this, I ordered yet another pair of flats, this time from Kate Spade. But, I mean. look at them! How can you reject these hot babes?!?!?!

                              4. Little Man Haruki Time

I’m pretty sure a mention to my kitty comes in just about every single one of my blog posts so of course he’s bound to be on the list. I absolutely love this little guy. I know I say it A LOT but who wouldn’t?!?! Any of you that have a cat (please remove yourself from my page if you don’t *kidding -please STAY!*) know what I’m babbling about. He’s not much of a toy-player, but he’s definitely an attention hog. Any time I’m laying in bed reading or in the kitchen getting a snack he follows me around meowing for attention, weaving in between my legs, and hopping up to the counter so he can reach me more easily. He especially loves laying down on my chest while I’m reading in bed and rubbing his cheeks against my face so I can pet him. Just a darling. I could go on for ages about him – but I better stop rambling about my mushy gushy love affair…at least for the rest of this post.

5. Slurping Black Tea Lemonade

I always have to be munching on something or at least drinking something enticing while I read and black tea lemonade is always my go-to, especially during the sizzling summer months. I love adding the lemon pulp in the drink for an extra kick – embrace the squirmy, sour face!

        6. Chit Chattin with the Coffee Shop Hotties

Well, not really hot, but I guess charming, or else why would I chit chat? I’m a regular at my neighborhood cafés and, unless I want my lattes to taste like barf time and time again, it’s kinda vital to make conversation with the baristas. Anyway, who am I if not a babbler?

              7. Beach Bummin’

I’m pretty big on laying out in the sun, hence the multiple freckles I’ve managed to accumulate throughout the years.

                              8. Summer Solstice Parade – Purdy Sunsets

My sister and I have an annual tradition of going to Santa Barbara every summer for the Summer Solstice Parade. It’s super fun with lots of games, and colorful festivities going on along State Street and in the park. There’s food, face-painting, and even includes a tradition of cracking a confetti egg on someone’s head. Lots of fun to celebrate the onset of Summer!

  9. Mango-Yum-Yum

Umm… Puh-leese. Go home with them peaches, it’s all about the mangoes. All I want in life is an endless library and ginormous backyard where I can grow and infinite number of mango trees. Yummy!

10. Mo Lovin-Mah-Mamma-Tymeee

In case you need effort dissecting my ghetto slurs: More Loving-My-Mom-Time. Best for last. Summer gives me a lot more time, and a lot less stress which allows me to spend a lot more time with my mom. She’s my absolute best buddy, and even though I literally have to force this chick to read one of my books, she reads all my blog posts and always wants to hear more about my babblings, no matter that she’s not interested in the subject matter.

Anything I miss? What are some of your favorite Summer festivities, or do you refuse to take your soul away from the pages of Harry Potter? I’m currently reading my ARC copy of As You Wish and will be posting a review in the coming days. So far, not good… more coming up so stay tuned my loves!

    1. OMG I’m so glad to know that I’m not alone out there! Kate Spade is the reason for my negative bank account, but always a wonderful investment – hehe. Really? Which kinds did you get? I recently got some pink bow Kate Spade flip flops myself (a gal can never have too much sandals)
      Thanks!

      1. Omg, no you are not alone!! I adore shoes!! Mine are the black bow ones! And they have a cute little monkey on them with a red rose, lol!! I thought they were quirky and cute! No, you can’t have too many sandals! I wear flip flops all year long if I can. Luckily it doesn’t get too cold in NC so I can even in Dec at times!!

    1. Right?!?!? Only problem, they don’t seem to match with anything I wear so they are waiting comfortably in my closet for further use – LOL! 😀

    1. It’s terrible, isn’t it?!? It’s like as soon as I feel bored or I have a bad day it’s off to Amazon or Shopbop to see what I can get for a “good price”.
      Aww thank you1 ❤
I get you, it's really hard to find that perfect balance between school/work, family/friends, and leisure activities.
      Thanks for commenting! 🙂

      1. It is! It’s just like hogging on ice creams on a bad day to make up for everything. I also love looking through not so popular apps? I get a few good deals there that make my day haha
It really is and I really wish I can pay more attention to the blog because it used to be so much fun to have your people here, you know? Talking and laughing with them. When I quit blogging for a bit I missed that the most!

Anyways it was a fun read! Thank you! 🙂

  3. This summer is the first summer since I lived on Long Island (almost a decade ago now!) that I’ve been able to garden. It’s so wonderful to be outside. I’m so glad you get to spend so much time hiking. I would love to be able to hike more!

You’re kitty is adorable and I very much love his name!!! My pup, in my profile pic, is a bit more like a cat than a dog, so I feel a kindred spirit to cat owners. Plus, there’s some great cats out there!

    Great post!!!

    1. Aww how charming! It must be such a delight to work in your own garden – so peaceful. I’m such an outdoors gal that I would love to one day have a home in the countryside where I can grow my own fruits and veggies.
Yes – hiking definitely keeps me in my right mind. Are there no hiking trails up in Long Island?
Aww thank you – I love animals and your pup looks like an absolute angel! ❤

      1. It is a delight, though a bit challenging at first! A place with a yard to grow a small garden is a real treat. My sister has a beautiful raised bed garden and has got it all figured out. I’m jealous!

I’m sure there are hiking trails on Long Island, but I don’t live there anymore and when I did, I was in an intense PhD program while working part-time outside of the part-time work for the department and those 80 hour weeks left no time for hiking. Now, I live in Wisconsin and there are plenty of hiking trails near me, but my health makes significant physical activity challenging, so it’s something I can only occasionally do for short periods.

Pets are the absolute best! They have so much love to give! ❤
