Top 10 Tuesday: Sensory Reading Memories

Dear fellow Babblers,

Hello there and happity-dappity Tuesday! Today has been a wonderfully humid day here in New York but that is not to say that it has not been a day filled with wonders, blessings and hope. I moved here less than twenty four hours ago, having arrived at JFK Sunday evening, heading straight to Upper Manhattan. Between then and now I have visited the greater half of Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens and much of Manhattan in search of an apartment. Being a first timer in New York the areas and neighborhoods as listed online meant nothing to me. It wasn’t until I found myself sitting in the subway watching the turns, entries, and exits through different parts of the city that the anxiety and suddenly realization would kick in that I had absolutely no idea where I was going and where I would end up. Just when I was at my wits end, pulling my hair out, screaming in my pillow, very near tears last night I found my new home. I moved into my cozy little room early this morning and since then have gotten to know my neighborhood and even found a job not even a two minute walk from my bedroom window.

Officially now living here in New York, thinking back to a little over a year ago when I graduated from UCLA and everything that I have seen, done and felt since then feels like many moons backwards. Between getting through emotional hardships, making difficult career decisions and living out of a suitcase, as of lately I have been reminiscing upon my life: childhood, adolescence and early adult and while all that I have mentioned peeks into my mind, I can’t help but also connect many of my memories to some titles that I have read whose story continues to live on within me. And that is why today I am here, after this very long introduction to take part in Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl which discusses all things bookish, bringing together book bloggers from all over the world. I usually don’t do these memes as I like to keep each of my posts original and just, you know, stick with my own vibes as my writing always reflects what is going on in my mind and life regardless of it is a book review or life update. However, feeling the way I am at the moment, nostalgic and dozing off to another time, this week’s topic seems just what I need.

The purpose of today’s Top Ten Tuesday is to bring back to conscious those special titles that gave you all the feels, evoking your sensory emotions, becoming a part of who you are, keeping a special place in your heart. Whether it be books read repeatedly during adolescence, those you read once during a road trip but made you feel a way you never had before, or even those you read during an airplane ride thinking you were just trying to escape the blabber mouth lady sitting next to you. Whatever the time, place and reason, these books are, in and of themselves proof of the life a book can take in each and every one of us.

Share Your World meme | Is This Delphine’s World ???

Dear fellow Babblers,

It’s been a while since I had a heart-to-heart chit chat with y’all. Since my blog has undergone a shift from book reviews to include my new project, Wanderings, I’ve been feeling a bit lost and confused as to where I stand in the blogging community as well as in my life. Thinks are moving fast for me without really going anywhere. I write things without really meaning anything. I talk about things without really saying anything about them. I’ve been staring at this screen for the last couple hours, but if I’m being honest I’ve been staring at it for the last couple of days. If anything brings me peace and pieces me back together, if only for a short while, its writing to anyone here that still bothers to scroll through their feed and click and read through my dry, sometimes, but more often than not, babbles.

For that past few days I’ve been waking up at odd hours of the night due to some medical issues I’ve been dealing with and once I wake up, there’s no chance that I fall back to sleep again. During these quiet hours when the rest of my town is either sleeping or going through the same sickening nostalgia as I am, I go to my old soul playlists and spend the next five hours reading each and ever word I have ever written, be it on my blog or a document uncovered in my computer files. Some are lighthearted and quirky, but, more often than not, they are melancholic and reminiscent of a time where simplicity and innocence was all I ever knew.

For todays’ post I am going to share my world with y’all. I found this meme, “Share Your World” from one of my new favorite bloggers, Julie, a photographer and graphic artist. As most of my followers are book reviewers and/or wanderlust gypsies, I whole-heartedly recommend meandering over to her site and checking out all of her stunning photography, travel features, not to mention breathtaking art.

Especially as January is already coming to a close, it’s especially of value to me as a blogger and total lost pigeon to share my world, whatever my world is and by sharing it, maybe I’ll finally figure out what exactly my “world” even is…  Continue reading “Share Your World meme | Is This Delphine’s World ???”

Just like most of my fellow book bloggers, I have grown to enjoy Tuesdays for the Top Ten Tuesday meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Now that they’re on vacation, however, I guess it’s that time to do archive-searching and along with all the rest of y’all, re-create new Top Ten Tuesday discussions, or repeat those which have done before.

Today I’ll be doing Top Ten Favorite Summer Activities That Aren’t Reading since:
1. Stephanie at Stephanie’s Novel Fiction is my idol who makes homemade ice cream has just done it.

Top 5 Tuesday – Short Babble on Some Longgg Reads

Dear fellow Babblers,

Please allow a special pause, moment of appreciation, kiss-blow, obnoxious holla for our fellow Americans out there… HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! Now, I’m usually not one to go out of my way on holidays – hence I’m sitting at home with the usual – little man, Haruki, iced lemon black tea, with my MAC typing up these very babbles that Señorita Delphine is ever so grateful to entertain you with. However, given all the controversy that has been going on here in the states (lets leave it at that shall we, *ahem, ahem, GET OUT THE WHITE HOUSE TRUMP!* ?), I figured it to be especially important to give a shout out to my fellow Americans out there who have, yes, the corny is coming: “Live the American Dream…”.

4th of july

Babbles on Throwback Thursday

Dear fellow Babblers,

Happy Friday Eve! At this point in my insubstantial existence the days of the week are becoming less and less important as one 24-hour cycle seems to blur into the next here in my sunny palm-tree infested hometown of West LA (why you gotta be so precise Delphine? No one’s trying to track you down so stop your babble and get to the weekly meme!).

Hear the voice inside my head? A bit aggressive, don’t cha think? That’s what I gotta deal with along with the summer heat and continuous roar of California traffic which all seems to crowd perfectly on Wilshire towards Santa Monica beach… Guess my beach trip is going to be postponed yet another afternoon. So now that I’m yet again sitting at my favorite spot in front of my window, black iced tea infused with lemon by my side I thought ” Why not get some babbling in? ” And what are we book babbling about today, on this crisp, bright Thursday? Top of the hour weekly meme time! Continue reading “Babbles on Throwback Thursday”
